Miami GP Sprint Race Tips: Back Piastri to Win Again

Formula 1 roars back to life in Florida this weekend, with the Miami Grand Prix hosting the season’s second sprint-format event. With McLaren continuing to set the pace and Max Verstappen showing cracks in his sprint dominance, the stage is set for another shake-up at the top.

Piastri Leading the Charge After Breakthrough Start

Oscar Piastri arrives in Miami with serious momentum, sitting atop the championship standings after 3 wins in the first 5 races of 2025. His consistency, composure, and control, particularly in the sprint format, have marked him out as the most complete driver on the grid so far.

While Lando Norris and Piastri are locked as joint-favourites for the sprint (both priced at 2.20), it’s the Australian who looks more dialled into the 2025 McLaren setup. Since his minor error in Melbourne, Piastri has barely put a wheel wrong, outshining Norris in recent rounds both in pace and poise.

Norris Fast, But Flawed

Lando Norris is the defending Grand Prix winner in Miami, having claimed a memorable first career victory here last season. But he benefited from a perfectly timed safety car that day, and 2025 has been more erratic. A qualifying crash in Saudi Arabia typified a season where raw speed has been undermined by mistakes.

He may well be in the mix again this weekend, but there are questions over his ability to keep it clean over a sprint distance, particularly with Piastri looking far more settled in the car.

Verstappen’s Sprint Dominance Slipping

Max Verstappen has been the sprint king since the format’s inception, with 11 wins dwarfing the rest of the field. But the Red Bull driver hasn’t won any of the last three sprints, his longest drought since 2021.

Off-track distractions may play a part this weekend too. The Dutchman’s absence from Thursday’s media day due to personal commitments comes at a time when he needs to be fully locked in. While his prior record in Miami is strong, Red Bull’s performance in medium-speed corners may leave him trailing the McLarens.
