The FedExCup season comes to a close at East Lake this week with just 30 players left in the field. The TOUR Championship has always carried prestige, but with the playoff format still under scrutiny, the pressure is squarely on Scottie Scheffler to justify his dominance in 2025.

The debate over the FedExCup playoff system continues, but what isn’t up for debate is the challenge East Lake presents. Playing as a par-70 at 7,440 yards, this Donald Ross design rewards elite tee-to-green play. In fact, last year’s top four all ranked first through fourth in strokes-gained tee-to-green.
That stat is no coincidence – the TOUR Championship is traditionally won by ball-strikers who can manage East Lake’s narrow fairways and firm greens. Rain in the build-up may soften conditions slightly, setting up for a mid-teens winning score.
Scottie Scheffler rightly goes off favourite, but value lies elsewhere. Rory McIlroy has the pedigree at this course, Ludvig Åberg is trending perfectly with three top-10s in his last four starts, and Shane Lowry looks a huge price for a player with his tee-to-green class.

- Rory McIlroy – Three-time FedExCup champion, thrives at East Lake, and looked sharp in his return from a break. His driving, a key weapon here, has clicked into gear again.
- Ludvig Åberg – Gaining over a stroke per round on approach in recent weeks, the Swede is striping it with driver and irons. He was 19th on debut here but arrives in far better form.
- Shane Lowry – Undervalued at 51.00. Eighth last year on debut, ranks eighth in the field tee-to-green, and has an excellent record on Donald Ross and parkland-style layouts.

Rory McIlroy – Pebble, Sawgrass & Augusta winner this year. Loves East Lake, and at 8.00 is too big for a player of his stature.
